Climate and soil requirements
It is a fruit tree of template areas and very sensitive to humidity conditions, so it is not tolerant to cold and dump climates. It has a good answer to the lack of water.
It is able to grow in all kind of soils, even in those not deep and chalky. The optimum pH is from 7.0 to 8.0 and the best soils are the loose and sandy soils. The water saturated and stagnate soils do not favour the tree; this kind of tree does not stand the root suffocation.
Plantation spacing
The plantation spacing varies according to the ecologic and edaphologic conditions, the variety and patron; kind of harvest and if the plantation is done in unrrigated or irrigated lands.
The spacing commonly used is: 7 x 5 and 6 x 4 m. In those varieties less vigorous it is possible the use spacing of 6 x 6 m or 6 x 5m.
Irrigation
The almond tree is normally cultivated in unirrigated lands, although the new crops are drip irrigated. The most important moment to irrigate the almond is during the filling of grains in spring. This will influence in the future production. One irrigation 15-20 days before harvest will favour the detachment.
